Mary's Place of the Coastal Empire

Mary's Place of the Coastal Empire, formerly the Rape Crisis Center, is a nonprofit sexual assault center that grew out of a volunteer crisis line started in Savannah in 1975. It provides support and information to survivors of rape and sexual abuse and their families, with a 24/7 crisis line staffed by trained volunteer advocates and staff, hospital accompaniment whether or not a survivor reports to police, advocacy with officials and agencies, and free, confidential counseling for survivors and anyone affected. It offers a six-session support group for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, recruits and trains Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners for forensic exams at area hospitals, and runs prevention education programs for schools. It primarily serves Savannah and the surrounding Coastal Empire counties and reports helping over 500 survivors a year.
