San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) has been rooted in the San Francisco community since 1973, when it was founded by a collective of women, many of them survivors, committed to anti-racist feminist principles. It provides resources, support, advocacy and education for individuals and communities responding to, healing from and working to end sexual violence. Services include a 24-hour rape crisis line, medical accompaniment at the city's main public hospital and other clinics, legal and social service advocacy, short-term individual peer counseling, support groups and prevention education. A dedicated Disability & Deaf Services program offers trauma-informed support for survivors with disabilities, and SFWAR trains volunteers as California certified sexual assault counselors.
