Independent nonprofit crisis, advocacy and counseling center for victims of sexual and violent crime · Springfield, Missouri
The Victim Center is a Springfield, Missouri nonprofit that began in 1976 as the Rape Crisis Center, offering crisis help to adult survivors of sexual assault. Over the years it grew into counseling, support for sexually abused children and their families, and services for all victims of violent or sexual crime, taking its current name in 1997. Every service is free: a 24-hour crisis response line, advocacy with police, hospitals, courts and social services, safety planning and help with protection orders, and trauma-based individual, family and group therapy, including a sexual assault survivor group and an art therapy group. Its school-based prevention program, used in Springfield schools since 1980, reaches thousands of children each year, and it serves survivors across southwest Missouri.
