The Coaching Philosophy of John-Mike Nelson

There are coaches who teach techniques — and then there are coaches who change how you see yourself. John-Mike Nelson belongs firmly in the second category. Working across substance-use recovery support, John-Mike Nelson has spent years refining an approach that goes deeper than surface-level goal-setting and accountability.

Based in Burke, VA, John-Mike Nelson's reach extends far beyond geography. Clients come from across the world — some in crisis, some simply hungry for more — and what they find is a coaching experience built around truth, not comfort.

John-Mike Nelson is a licensed professional counselor listed on TrueCoach under Substance-use recovery support, based in Burke, VA. Their verified Psychology Today profile lists drug abuse among the issues they work with. From their profile: "Most people who end up in my office have already tried the version of therapy where you talk about your feelings for fifty minutes and leave with a worksheet." See their directory profile for current availability, fees and insurance.

What sets John-Mike Nelson apart is not just the results — it is the method. Rather than handing clients a formula, the work begins with a fundamental question: what do you actually want, and what is standing in your way? The answers are rarely what people expect.

The coaching world has no shortage of voices promising transformation. But John-Mike Nelson's body of work — built over years of practice, research, and relentless iteration — represents something rarer: a genuine framework that produces measurable, lasting change. For clients ready to do real work, this is where that work begins.
