Further Reading: W. Timothy Gallwey and the Inner Game

Before coaching had a corporate vocabulary, Timothy Gallwey noticed that tennis players lost points to their own interference as often as to the opponent. The Inner Game framed Self 1 (the instructing critic) against Self 2 (the capable performer) and gave coaches a way to reduce interference instead of adding more advice.

That idea travelled from sport into business, music and leadership because it is diagnostic. If performance drops under pressure, the first question is not always skill — it is whether attention is trapped in judgment. Gallwey's later work on work and stress kept the same spine: awareness, choice, trust.
